How many Airpods/Airpod Pros can I have connected to all of my iDevices?

Simple question - how many Airpods can I have in my ecosystem to 'just work' (i.e. pick up a random set of Airpods and have it connect to whatever I'm using without additional steps - beyond when it doesn't work of course)?

Can I mix and match Pros and non-Pros?

Going forwards I might want to leave a set at the office and have separate earphones for 'outside' and multiple 'insides'.

I can't answer 'how many' but I use a pair of Power Beats Pro and APP on my devices with no issues auto connecting. I use 'When last connected to this ...' as I use them on IPP/MBP/iPhone/AW and those devices also get used by my kids and it will auto connect (transfer) to another device otherwise.
