Hi.

I've always been wondering if there is any approximate limit to the number of application to install on the iPhone so that the overall performance will not be affected?

In theory, just having applications installed (on the disk) should not affect the OS or application performance, but I keep reading reports where "having too many apps" slows down the performance of the iPhone. It may not be that big of a deal anymore now that the 3GS has twice as much RAM as the previous versions, but I'd like to make sure my 3GS remains as fast as it is now.

Feedback would be appreciated.

10,000 1-meg apps will simply use 10,000 megs of storage.

A given app is (should be) only using memory when actively running. If nothing is running, and you're in the phone app, for example, your phone should run as per usual.

Thanks for the reply.

I totally agree with you in theory. I guess I'm just afraid to follow the theory here because I've heard too much "anecdotal evidence" that too many apps will slow down your iPhone. I know, I'm probably way overreacting...

Where did you read this? Do you have any links?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A400 Safari/528.16)

I have all 9 screens filled up and I have never seen an issue on my 3GS or 2G

the more apps you have, the more ram/cache is used to display each app icon on the springboard. every time you load settings app, obviously it has to load up every app setting you have installed, etc etc. of course it will end up killing battery faster.

these are just two little things i can think of that would affect battery life when you install more apps. im sure there are many more.
