Was wondering about the proportion of imacs with dead stuck pixels.
What do you reckon is the proportion of pixel perfect imacs?

10% 20% 50%?

I'd like to do some math and calculate how many imacs I need to buy before I can be say 95% sure not to have a pixel defect, my early estimate is 4, any more statistically sound estimates out there???

I'm sure those that really know aint tellin.

My recently returned 27" i7 had 1 red pixel.

My unibody Mac book pro is pixel perfect.

I have only owned two macs in my life

So by my math if perfection is 100% pixel perfect, then:

50%

As part of my job, I've unpacked over 200 iMac's so far - over the last 12 months. Had 1 with a bad video processor OOTB and 1 that wouldn't power on.

I unpacked my dad's 27" i7, zero dead/stuck pixels, no yellow display.

It has unfortunately a completely DOA magic mouse, dad was really excited about playing with it. Fortunately, my apartment is like 12 minutes from the Easton Apple Store.

I own a 2006 iMac and a 2009 unibody MacBook -- both are pixel perfect with no other flaws in the screens.

I'm going to get a 27" i7, but I'm trying to hold off a few more weeks to see if any problems surface. (for example, I'd like to see how the reported screen problems pan out) I always prefer to wait at least a month or two to see how a Revision A performs in the field. But I really want the new iMac badly, and I don't know how long I can hold out!

As a side note, I stopped in to Best Buy this afternoon to take a long hard look at the 21.5" and 27" iMacs on display. After the discussions that have been taking place on here, I wanted to see if I could find any imperfections. I ran pixel tests and looked very closely for yellow tinging, and both machines were flawless. I spent about 15 minutes inspecting each display and couldn't find a thing.

I'm not saying problems don't exist -- I just haven't been able to find one yet. And given that defects in Apple products tend to be in the low single digits (percentage-wise), I suspect that I'll be hard pressed to ever find one with a problem.

In the last few years my wife and I have had a 12" Powerbook G4, 14" iBook G4, 15" MacBook Pro, 13" MacBook, 17" MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, 24" iMac and 27" iMac and none of them have had a single bad pixel. Maybe I'm lucky or maybe...just maybe... the pixel "problems" we always read about on this board are just a vocal, tiny minority.

How many people have ever started a thread just to say they have no bad pixels? Not many...

iMac 2007 20" - Fine
iMac 2008 24" - Fine
Macbook 2008 - Fine
Macbook 2009 - Fine

On a roll! I remember I bought a monitor a few years back. Gorgeous display, but it had two dead pixels right beside each other.

Over the years I've bought 2 iBooks, 4 MacMinis (which don't count for pixels), 2 iMacs and a MacBook. Of those one of both the iBooks and the iMacs have had a single stuck pixel. I've also bought two TFT displays (not Apple) of which one had a single stuck pixel.

I have old g5 imac and a newer macbook pro both of which are pixel perfect (defined as no stuck or dead pixels).

However my new i5 imac had a stuck pixel, after hesitating I am sending it back in the hope of achieving pixel perfection. After reading these posts I am hopeful that the probability of getting a good one is better than I had initially thought.

Heres hoping.

If I rolled my eyes any harder at this thread they would pop out of my head. 50% perfection? Define the perfect iMac.

Basically the point is that we are always told that some pixel anomalies (e.g stuck or dead http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defective_pixel) are an inevitable consequence of lcd manufacture. Specifically I am referring only to pixel anomalies where pixel perfection is defined as a screen with 0 pixel anomalies. But there are no hard stats on what proportion of say iMacs have 1 or more pixel anomalies. I personally would like to know the numbers. There are stories on these boards of people having multiple computers in a row with bad pixels, and I saw one estimate that 30 computers would need to be purchased to guarantee pixel perfection.

This is not a scientific poll, I just thought that it would be fun to speculate and to gather opinions on how common pixel problems are.

Mine is pixel perfect i guess. I can hear my hard drive seeking and some say this is an issue, but I say it's a mechanical HD.

the bigger the LCD, the more unlike you have perfection.

that is why 30 inch monitor cost a bomb.

unless you are a samsung, i have two small samsung and both have stuck red dots at the center. I now ban samsung LCD, one time my fault, two time samsung fault.

My early 2009 unibody MPB is pixel perfect.

The i5 I returned last week (for other reasons) had 2 stuck pixels.

i7 is on order, am not hopeful that it will be perfect.

my last 24" had 1 stuck red pixel, this i7 is perfect. On the other hand, I had a Dell 10v 10" screen with 1 dead, before that an HP tablet PC 12" stuck pixel, my guess is that you just need to have the luck of the draw, it seems no matter what size Stuck pixels exist.
