I've had mine since late December and so far i've gotten 3 people to buy one, without actually doing anything more than simply showing them and allowing them to play with mine for a bit. Two of my cousins bought a 13" and one of my clients got an 11. I never actually tried to "sell" the product. It's too bad there isn't a referral program. I could probably get a whole lot more if I went out there with the intent to sell :(

Macs are very addictive and several of my friends have also bought them after seeing me play with them (and various other devices such as iPads). Not MBA's though but Pro's mainly.

However I'd never actually try to sell them to my friends for personal gain, even if there was a referral program. And I'd be offended if someone tried that with me. I don't make money off my friends even if it's something good. But maybe that's just me. I'd be a useless salesman anyway.

I understand and i agree, that's mainly why I put the word sold in quotes. I'm a lousy sales person myself and could never sell anything I didn't believe in myself. One of my very first jobs was working the floor at an audio/video store. Manager was always pissed at me for not selling extended warranties. I sold one the entire time I was there and that was because the customer requested it.

As far as making money off your friends, I don't see it that way. You're not making them buy something they wouldn't anyway and it would cost the same if they go through your or directly from apple. It's all hypothetical anyway since there is no reseller/referral program.

I agree. Reading back it sounds a bit harsh what I said, it wasn't meant that way. When I wrote it I was thinking of a 'friend' who tried to push timeshare leases and was really persistant. Macs are a different story because I do really believe they beat Windows PC's any day, for home use.

Your story about the warranties sounds very familiar. I used to fix computers in a PC store as a student and was expected to sell as well at quiet times, but I always dissuaded the customers from buying the overpriced models with the most margin :) So more suitable work was found pretty quickly.

I still believe though, if you treat a customer well and honestly, they'll come back to you next time. But the sales world is too focused on this month's figures.
