Hi everyone,

we are all aware of the numerous issues the new iMacs have. I am now testing my 3rd machine after spending a whole weekend dealing with apple care and the apple store itself, putting up with their different policies, and arguing about the quality of the product.

I was told I was the 4th person this week returning an iMac due to the same issue. Just wondering how many of you have been through the same and if so, how many of these faulty iMacs have you tested?

my day 1 imac 27 inch i7 BTO from apple is going back for the screen flickering / blackout issue that hundreds are reporting. because i ordered online sadly it looks like another long wait to get a new one. i have owned 2 other imacs and 2 macbooks and this is the first with build issues, but sadly it looks like the screen issues are very widespread, but do not effect every machine so it is a hardware issue.

After reading through the forums, the screen flickering thing can be fixed by doing a clean install of SL.

I don't know if it'll work since I don't have an iMac. :(

Not for me it doesn't

Intermittently i have a white bar that flashes across the screen, Im taking mine back on Friday...

I had the screen flickering on my 2.8 i7. I am amazed and disappointed at how widespread this issue is. Lugging around 45lbs to ship it back and then having to wait (another) 2-3 weeks for a replacement is not cool. Hopefully they are figuring this out and will fix the issue in the next round...

They took mine back because of bad sectors on the hard drive. I heard noisy drive, they saw bad sectors. Either way...

I used the opportunity to trade up to an i5 from a C2D with no restocking fee. :)

Same exactly with mine! It had bad sectors so they did a retail swap for me. Looks like the new one has no problems until yesterday, I discovered it has the screen flickering issue. I'll take it this one back too. I'll see how the third one goes. :D

Had 3 bad i5's, ranging from a loose hard drive fan, to power supply issue and random shut downs, to screen with back light bleed and yellow discoloration. Decided to move up to the i7 and hope this is problem free.

just got my i7 replacement this morning, so far so good. My old one had the flickering issue which I'm starting to think can be fixed by firmware in the near future.

I am expecting my i7 in a little over a week. Did you notice the flicker right out of the box, or did it take a few days to develop?

the first 24 hours is wasn't flickering but the next day it did. Apple sent me the new one within 7 days which was great so hopefully this one is flicker-free.

I got my new I7 this morning and it will not power up. It worked one time, but will not restart ever since. It will turn on with some fan noise, spin the install DVD and then get very quiet with no screen activity ever. It is going back for replacement.

Is this one of the typical early Imac problems and is the next batch likely to be reliable?

I got an I7 coming on Monday and this news is not giving me a feel good that Apple has done anything to fix or publicly address these issues. How can Apple let the production line keep producing sub-par Imacs for this long?
