Well, my PC sold, meaning I can now buy my first iMac. I am waiting until January 2009 for the possibility that a new iMac with a better video card will be released. How many of you think that new iMacs/Mac Minis are indeed coming January 2009?

I too Iam waiting for macworld, I changed my mind only till last week when I seen the 24inch for the first time, I was going to get a custom built pc, just love the imac, its so well built and the screen is so bright and crisp, really Iam hoping for a good graphics card though, something like gtx 280 or 9800, hope they stick with nvidia, your current pc seemed to be fairly good spec, what are u using your imac for?

Like others have said, I think you'll see a spec bump not anything radical. If you need one now, I'd say get it.

The GTX 280 is a desktop card, but a 9800m of some sort is a fairly good guess.

Even though I'm not interested in buying either, I'd hope for a refresh of both at MacWorld. It would certainly make up for the "blah blah blah mobile me blah blah sales numbers blah blah blah iphone 3g (!)" that was WWDC. It's hard to get excited about a glorified FTP.

Well my firm adopted a new CAD program that runs on Mac, so I'll be doing CAD. I also will be doing some gaming.

iMac? Yes but only a speed bump and display port etc.

Mac Mini? No, I don't think they are going to update the Mac Mini. As a matter of fact I think they are going to kill off the Mac mini after the holiday sales. I do think they will release something like it, But not labeled as a Mac Mini. MacWorld is a consumer event with all of the media OOOing and AHHing about a brand new radical product from Apple. Given how long they have put off updating the current Mac Mini, I think they would have been investing the time into R&D for a new product.

I think that the iMac will be updated and possibly the mini. However the only people who know for sure are apple execs, and they wont be telling any of us until then.

Not January. February 2009 (or end of January). MWSF is for new products.

At least these are my thoughts.

I think there will be a design overhaul. Thinner Aluminium Unibody construction with easy access to HD. Motherboard will be a lot smaller then current offerings.

Newest chipset and graphics will be incorporated based on Nvidia mobile tech currently seen in Macbook (Pro) line.

Possible incorporation of USB 3 spec. (officially announced on Nov. 17)
May or may not abandon Firewire on low end models.

20" (low end)

Standard LCD
Inegrated graphics
Low end Core i7 chip

20" (mid range)

Led display
low end discrete graphics
Mid range Core i7 chip

24"

Led display.
High end graphics
Choice of Core i7 chips.

Not so sure about the iMac, but I think the Mac Mini is definitely coming, in a new form factor and with a new name.

Exactly the same design. DDR3 RAM. Mini Display Port. LED displays across the board. Possibly a low end model, same as the current low end model but with the 9400M for $999. And it will come in February not January. Next design change is years away.

Thats it. Core i7 mobile isn't even available until Autumn 2009.

Oh yeah I forgot that they use mobile chips in iMacs but I do believe they have used desktop chips in the iMac before. The TDP tolerance of the iMac is much higher then a notebook. Let's hope that Core i7 Makes it in sooner then Q3 2009. They might have difficulty competing otherwise.

Apple sells tons of Mac minis to a wide variety of consumers and businesses. They'd be crazy to kill it off. Unless, of course, they finally release the fabled xMac (the rumored "midrange mini tower" Mac with upgradeable video).

Don't worry everyone...soon the leaks will come out...they always do!

I think a lot of MWSF will be devoted to iPhone software and possibly to snow leopard.

I'll be buying my first Mac after MacWorld anyway.

MacMini as it currently is, a new version, Mac Air, MacTvMiniAppleAir, call it what they like I need something!

Hope they really release updates on the imac, there always mentioning about the iphone now or OS's at these events, suppose though thats were most of there sales are coming from now and they quietly update the computers, bring on new imacs at macworld

But do you really think they wont come January?
Yep, I don't see a regular update like this at MWSF. An end of January update (it's happened before) I consider plausible, as well as an end of February update. After that is too late, I think.

I think there will be a design overhaul.

Core i7 chip
Way too optimistic, if you ask me.

I see these updates:

20" models:
  • 20" LED
  • NVIDIA chipset, 9400M GPU, 2 GB DDR3 RAM
  • Dual-core Penryns
  • No Firewire
  • Basically the iMac version of the MacBook
24" models:
  • 24" LED
  • NVIDIA chipset, 9600M GPU, 9800M BTO, 2 GB (maybe 4 GB) DDR3 RAM
  • Dual-core Penryns, OR maybe quad-core
  • Firewire 800
  • Basically the iMac version of the MacBook Pro

Thank you for these reasonable predictions!

Mac Mini redesign and a iMac spec bump(display port added)

At least thats what I'd like to see...but I also see it making sense.

I can definitely see some form of redesign to the Mac mini (glossy black :apple: and all).

I also wouldn't count out the Mac mini becoming a bit smaller.
