For all of those who dropped their smartphone before without a case on, how badly was that phone damaged?
What phone was it and is it still usable?

I've only had 1 somewhat serious drop with my iPhone 4S that did some damage, if you want to call it that. The glass survived, but one of the black antenna bits along the frame got messed up a little.
My GS4 likes to find its way in between my seat and center console in my car. I've dropped it down there about a half a dozen times. The fake metal framing around the phone has some minor dings from it, but nothing serious.
My old Blackberry though, damn that thing used to take a beating, and did so like a champ.

I dropped my I phone 4 at the gym locker room while the phone was wearing an external mophie battery case. It was a hard drop on the floor. The case stayed on I thought everything was fine until I took the case off and the back glass of my I phone was totally shattered
Below is my injured I phone 4. I don't know if I should get it repaired. The phone woks just fine now. ..

I say the original iPhone from 2007 was the best built iPhone ever created. And the only model that doesnt have the same design as other generations. It sold the least because it was very expensive, was available in very limited carriers and markets, and it wasnt subsidized for 3 years like the 3Gs and after. It felt more exclusive and unique owning a jailbroken iPhone between 2007-2009.
It would go down as a Top 3 fav phone of mines if I didnt sell that model twice because it crashed alot (128 MB RAM), weak camera, Retina Display didnt spoil me, couldnt install newer apps, touchscreen froze when I received a text while on a call, and simply lagged like molasses by iOS3. If you could put the innards of a 5s into the first gen iPhone, I would buy it in a heartbeart even if it is thick by today's standards.
But yes, it was quite slippery. The last iPhone that felt comfortable in the hand for ME was the iPhone 3G/3Gs because of their rounded backs even though it used plastic. I personally dont like the feeling and build quality used on the iPhone 4/4s/5/5s. Design-wise, very nice and one of the best. Ergonomics, not really. Too angular for me. I prefer rounded edges and corners. And I also prefer the plastic and design used on the Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Nexus over the glossy hyperglaze of the S3 and S4. Sometimes older is better.
The phone I dropped the most wasnt a smartphone. It was my Nokia 3360. But that was built like a tank. The most comfortable and best built quality smartphones I've owned is the Nexus One, BlackBerry Bold 9000, and iPhone 2G in that order. HTC One is up there but I still prefer a softer material since aluminum metal can scrape or dents. Hopefully the Note 3 with the faux leather back will have the same durability like 2008's Bold 9000.
