Try leaving your phone at less than 100% overnight and report back your findings.I used to lose around 6% at night from a full charge, but after a complete restore as new (without using old backup), the phone stays at 100% throughout. Sleep time is around 8-10 hours for me.
I would say that would be more realistic/accurate. Clearly after 6-8 hrs the battery cant be at 100%. That's impossible. So 99% may be more realistic number. With 9.0.1 I could leave a fully charged 6S+ in Airplane mode for 6-8 hours and it would remain showing 100% battery.
With 9.0.2 the same scenario leaves me with 99%. Not sure why that is.

Charging a battery to its full capacity is a lengthy process because it must be careful not to over charge. Because it takes so long, to display the true percentage to the user would make them feel uncomfortable and cause them to ask why the last few percent take so long to charge. So it is common practice to display 100% even though it may only be, say 95%. Or, if we think sbout it the other way around, think of the battery being 105% but anything above 100% is not displayed.I would say that would be more realistic/accurate. This is why it's common for people to see their phone stick at 100% for a long time after a lengthy charge (say, overnight). It doesn't mean no battery is being used. The same will not happen if a user charges their phone and immediately unplugs it when it reaches 100%, as the battery won't be filled to its true capacity.
This is why one poster wanted people to test this starting from less than 100%, so that the drop overnight is a more accurate representation.
