I’m all in for the Mac Pro just waiting for my Fiscal 2020 to roll around and a W5700 XT config, that being said it’s given me sometime to explore and read all your posts. I had no idea the Mac Pro was Made in the USA, that’s quite cool.

Which makes me wonder, How much cheaper would the Mac Pro of any configuration be if Assembled in China. I’d guess every component except the Xenon W CPU which is made by Intel either in Israel, Costa Rica, or here in the USA 🇺🇸 or one of there many other Fabrication plants. All the components are Made in China.

Would 20% cheaper be out of the question ? Maybe 10% cheaper ?

Side Note: the vast majority of Mac Pros are Made in China, but those are meant for Markets outside the United States.

6000+ mile long supply lines don't make a whole lot of sense.

Container ships make such things economical, but that doesn't come without a cost.

If you detect a problem, then these long supply lines can get very expensive.

also, quality made in CN is now actually great, I remember there is post here a week ago that order 2 mac pro that US made the aluminum case have issue

I was reading that Apple was deceptive on purpose to gain positive news coverage by saying the Mac Pro is Made in the USA. When behind the scenes the reality is, Apple engineers want to close down the Texas manufacturing plant because it’s stupid to ship and unpack dozens of components to Texas which just adds costly labor. When everything can be streamlined and centralized in China.
Even made in USA Mac Pros I think the CNC machined cases are CNC milled in China which is absurd.

The Mac Pro I order in a few days will ship from China - to Japan. I'll post any issues with the computer if there are any.

It wouldn't be cheaper, Apple would enjoy fatter profit margins. I don't know any company that reduces prices because they're manufacturing costs go down.

The MacPro sold in EU are made in China but they aren't less expensive than the units made in Texas.

No less expensive but Apple would make slightly more money. The Mac Pro is still manufactured in China it's only assembled in the US and this is mostly for PR reasons.

100% True, fatter profit margins are one thing stock holders require and demand. However with the tens of millions in tax credits given to them by local politicians that likely offsets any projected labor costs decades from now. It’s just sad and embarrassing that Mac Pros with know problems have been USA Made.

MP pricing was already set when their plan was to manufacture all of them in CN. The Made in USA turnaround was a last minute scramble to avoid an import tax.
The price of the MP for the customer wouldn't change.

Very nice and well informed, so by making a handful Of Mac Pros in Texas they avoid a 20% import tax. Wonder how many other companies are doing similar things.

If a deal is made on tariffs I wonder if Apple will shut down the Texas plant. They wouldn’t need it any more.

Apple engineers don't give a crap where the Mac Pro is assembled, they just design the thing. It's the Apple bean counters in marketing that try to squeeze every penny out of it.

Apple doesn't own the plant, so they can't shut it down.
No they hired some 3rd party company called FLEX and outsourced the work. Heck it wouldn’t be much biter a big warehouse to shutdown. They are just assembling expensive Legos aka parts shipped in from China. And making sure the Mac Pros are running.

Heck a Youtuber even got the wrong Mac Pro a huge upgrade. I was trying to find his channel he order an 8 Core and got a 16 Core and double the RAM. He called Apple and they said to keep it at no extra cost, or he could return it. So the Texas plant even has huge blunders.
