Other How much damage is allowed on IUP trade in

I know on IUP plan you're allowed to trade in, and quoting Apple "don't worry about damage" but that will cost a excess fee for the AC+ (£25 for screen/£79 for other).

Screen is an obvious I suppose if it's smashed, but what about scratches on it? How much are you allowed?

The other I presume is back etc, again what is ok without the excess fee?

It's just on my Xr I've had either films on back and front and/or cases. Just took off ready for upgrade and it's nice to see the red in all its glory!

So is it really viable to go naked for the year. I am careful with my iPhone. I have a slip case for in pocket when I do dare to go naked.

Just wondering on people's stories on taking back on IUP and what was and wasn't allowed and had to pay? So I presume the most ever paid would be the "other damage" fee of £79

Normal wear and tear like scratches will be fine. Dents, cracks and chips probably not.

But on Saturday I had a crack across the screen of my 'X' repaired at the Apple Store in Reading - just in case I do want to trade it in. I have Applecare+, so I figured I might as well get my money's worth.

I was astonished when they did it for free - no £25 excess to pay. I didn't ask them too, so I'm not sure why they didn't charge me. Maybe it's because I mentioned that I was thinking about upgrading? They even e-mailed me a Genius Bar work confirmation showing the zero price.

But what does "won't be" mean? Meaning you can't do the upgrade until you get it repaired? Or can I pay the $100 and give them the phone with a cracked back and walk out with the new phone and a single IUP loan?

I’ve gone caseless this year with my XS Max and for the most part am glad I did. I’ve got some scuffing on the metal casing on the top right of my device. I think it would be pretty petty of them to refuse this on a trade in as it’s purely cosmetic but I guess we will see tomorrow!

Didn't have Apple care but went in to my local Apple store with the intention to pay for a repair. Spoke to a 'Genius', told him what happened etc. and he told me "Let's just say I didn't hear you say you dropped the phone on a concrete floor, as that looks like a defect in the glass". Screen was repaired in store free of charge and pretty sure I collected later that day, seriously cool guy.

I went in this morning for my 8AM appt. Trade-in for IUP was no hassle, paid the $99 service fee for the repair and I was done. My phone had a fairly significant impact on the back, spidering across the whole device with a few small glass chunks missing.

I doubt it’s a big deal if you have minor cosmetic damage. Most likely they use these phones as refurbs and replacements where they replace the outer shell anyway.
