Looking at iPhone plans and it looks like there are 1GB and 2GB plans available. Just wondering how much data most people use. Seems like I would go through 1GB quite fast.

I've rarely gone over 1GB but have never even come close to 2GB. I would characterize myself as a moderate data user. I only use it extensively when I'm trapped on a bus to Boston which is 5 hours there and back.

In the U.S. there is currently no choice except an unlimited plan, but I'd probably pick the 2GB if it was available here.

Do you have the option up change the data package once you find out its not enough or are you locked into the same amount? If you can change it then i would start with the 1GB option and see how it fares

You get 2 months with rogers to determine if the data plan you have selected is enough. Rogers has access to your monthly online usage on their online billing system now too.

Rogers Terms of Service said:
Use your first 2 months to see how much data you really need, with no overage fees. This gives you 2 full months to monitor your usage and make sure that you're on the right plan to get the best value.

Honestly, the only way I see anyone going over 1GB a month, unless they tether, is if they are jailbroken and watch/download high quality Youtube through MxTube/use 3G un-restictor. That's what I do, and I'm still only around 1GB a month. Web browsing itself takes next to no bandwidth.

I'd consider myself to be a moderate user but i rarely go over 500mb.

I suppose when i'm at home it is all wifi though so that must take a lot of data.

My usage for Cellular Network Data is listed as 142 MB Sent, 852 MB Received. Last Reset: 12/4/07

So that is 994 total MB in 22 months.

I do have wifi at home and very poor signal at work so that could account for the low numbers.

I used to do 5.8GB a month of 4-5 months . I did have Rogers 6GB Data plan and I used it for daily BBC podcasts, YouTube every 2nd day (watched an entire FMA movie one weekend) but that's when I was a High School student without a life :p.

Now with 3gUnrestrictor (WiFi quality YouTube over 3G), I use about 1.2GB a month. I'm now part of normal working society :).

If you just want to check email and sites regularly, you can get the 1GB plan and watch YouTube on WiFi. Otherwise, 2GB is usually more then enough. :D

On a monthly basis, I average just under 1GB....all in the 850-900MB range. Thats with alot of MLB@BAT app useage over 3G, and a ton of Sirius Radio and Simplify Media.

Once baseball is over, my numbers should go down!

5-6 Gigs a month

Currently I'm averaging aroung 5 - 6 gigs a month. I always watch to make sure I don't go over.

If you're wondering how that's even possible every month... purchase a Slingbox. Live TV on your iphone anywhere you are. While I'm not a huge tv watcher, while I'm at work there's always something on to pass the time.

Plus.. it's HOCKEY season! :D

my usage has tripled since Oct 1.

my billing cylce stops today, I am at 8.9G
lace them up and drop the puck. I am betting I will be going over 10G next month.
I must look into the sling box, right now.

Didn't know there were 1G and 2G plans..

Looking at my ATT data usage... i average 3-5Gs a month.. I use my like every 10 min... never been charged extra for it..

interesting

you have got me thinking now..

Apparently I use much less data than I think I do, because I got my iPhone in August '08 and I've used a grand total of 3.6GB in about 14 months, which figures to be about 0.26GB/266MB a month. I've never reset my data counters either. I'd be way better off if AT&T offered 1GB a month for cheaper than $30 because I think the most data I've used in a month is around 800MB.

I have the 500mb a month. Thats more then enough. I started off with 6gb and dropped because I realized the only way you use more then 500 is if you youtube it up, or stream other music/video.

Keep in mind though that if you switch from a value pack to a different value pack they start the data term over. :(

Wow...you guys honestly go through 10GBs a month? That's just wrong! Buy a router asap! Side note I've gone through like 40GBs a month on my cable modem haha....

¿?¿? How is that "wrong!"? Streaming live tv, audio , radio, video is what this device is capable of. 6gig data plan is barely enough for users who actually use all features of the phone. Trust me, the 6 gigs comes in handy when you're streaming live sports games on your phone while sitting at the office or on the bus. Streaming radio all day also has a large impact on this.

Obviously you don't use your phone to the fullest extent and there's nothing wrong with that. I'd say the same for your cable modem if you're only capping 40gigs a month.

:D

"there's nothing wrong with users who use their allotted bandwidth"

How are you watching NHL games on the iPhone? Is there an app out similar to MLB at Bat 09?

I rarely even hit 200MB per month, let alone 2GB per month (or day). Then again, I'm around WI-FI most of the day during the week.
