I am an experienced Handbrake user, and I have been experimenting with various pre-sets and settings to try to get the best picture on my iPad. My question for everyone is "at what point are you unable to distinguish additional quality on your iPad when ripping HD content?"
I make the assumption that for SD content it is a waste to do anything above the Universal setting, since you can't add resolution that isn't there. But, I'm having trouble telling if I can really tell the difference between HD content converted using the iPhone and iPod settings (I make a few adjustments like changing to 1024 by X anamorphic) and the AppleTV settings.
Starting with the iPhone and iPod settings gets me about 1.2 GB for 2 hours and AppleTV gets me about 2.1GB.
What are your experiences? Is is a waste to go for the additional quality? Can the eye even detect it given the size of the screen and pixels?
