SBSettings has the option to show free ram in the statusbar.

I'm around 580 free RAM .
 
It's not important how much ram you have left. When you use your phone long enough you will have only 50mb left or less. The iOS memory management will free memory when it's necessary.
 
Free RAM is wasted RAM. iOS will free RAM when it needs it, otherwise it will keep as many recently-opened apps in its inactive memory as it can hold so that they can be accessed more quickly when you need them. They're not slowing your phone down or anything, and the memory will be freed if needed for another purpose. There's absolutely no need to manage memory or even look at it unless you suspect some sort of leak.

I use to monitor the RAM all the time and was obsessed with it. I use to freak out when it got below ~50mb, but now I don't even bother to look at it and let iOS do its thing. I'm a lot saner now:)
