Other How much GB should I get for the iPhone 12 Pro?

I'm planning to purchase the iPhone 12 Pro and am wondering if I should go with the 256GB or 512GB. I have 256GB on my current iPhone XS and only used 118GB in the past two years. I take a lot of photos and some video.

Given my current usage, I think staying with 256GB will be fine, but since I'm assuming the photo and video files will be larger in the 12 Pro, i want to sanity check that with others!

I’m on an x and have the 64gb. I’ve had to mildly manage storage but not bad. 128 is likely sufficient. I’m kind of leaning towards 256 for the longer haul but unsure if it’s really needed. Esp because I’m considering a larger iCloud family plan.

I had a 256 X and currently have a 256 11 Pro. I have never seen more than 40GB used on either phone. Unless you are going be take a lot of those high bit rate 4k videos, I don’t think anyone would need more than the 128GB model

I have a 256gb X and only have 40gb left. Mostly taken up by photos and videos. I prefer to keep those locally and don’t use iCloud, so I might end up getting the 512gb as I anticipate the same rate of taking photos/videos in the next few years

Like no backup ..ANY WHERE If its all in one place what happens if that one storage device gets destroyed?

Well I mean I back it up on my Mac from time to time. And I’ve also imported older photos/videos onto an external drive

How is this going to work? The photos will just be on the phone? Seems like a step backwards IMO.

To answer OP’s question, I personally have been using a 256GB iPhone X for 3 years and generally have a lot of free space even including the movies and TV shows I have downloaded to it “just in case” but never actually watch. 128 would probably be a little tight but 256 feels nice and roomy. 512 is mostly for people who either want to take lots of high quality video or want to store large amounts of media on their phone.

What’s wrong with keeping them in iCloud? I was gonna go with the 256GB phone, and keep my original photos on my phone. But now I’m wondering if I should “optimize for iPhone storage” and just upload the original file sizes to iCloud.

I have my phone set up to save the original to the phone but I still have iCloud. You never know I’d your phone breaks. It’s good to have them saved.
