i have a mbp and i m wondering how much hard drive to partition

i will mainly be using the xp pro side for:
-gaming
(fps like r6v, orange box, quake wars, prey any other good game)

-University (need it to run some mech. engineering program i m guessing like CAD or inventor or some other 3d rendering software that probably won't be supported on a Mac)

i guess i will install aim too just so i can chat and teamspeak for gaming and when i have to do project.

those are pretty much the only thing i will use it for, all other like photos, music, daily use of computer will be on the Mac side, so help me decide how much to partition please

thank you

Well we need to know how much HD space you have...but
On my old 160GB I did 60GB and on my new 250GB I did 100GB. I also use my Windows side for gaming (Running XP, Vista uses about 8 more GB). I have a crap load of games on there and tons of space left over. But that's a starting point for you.

o yea sorry, it's 160gb, and i have a backup hard drive.

about how much space does a game take up? 1.5gb right? i m thinking of partitioning 40gb.

can i run crysis on xp pro? if not is vista worth getting yet?

would 2.4Ghz, nvidia 8600 256mb, 2gb ram be enough to run it at medium setting if not high?

thnx

Vista is not worth getting for any computer in my opinion.... 40GB might get you by, but it really depends on how many games you load.

40 might be a tad to small depending on how many games you are using. Most newer games use 2 or more GB...I think one game I installed used 7. I would go with 60 if you have the room. And yes you can run Crysis on Medium, check out http://www.tweakguides.com it will help a lot.

From my experience, here's a suggestion from a hard-drive usage breakdown (going from memory, may have errors)

- WinXP : 3 GB
- Virtual Memory set aside: 2 GB (same as your RAM)
- Full Orange Box Install : 15 GB
- Other games : 15 GB
- MS Office : 0.5 GB
- Engineering Software : 4 GB
- Your personal files : 5 GB

Total: 45 GB

I set aside 15 GB for my BootCamp with WinXP. After uninstalling MS Office and HL2 and having very little else on there, I can just squeeze in HL2 : Episode 1. I don't have room for Episode 2. I'll have to figure something out when I get to it.

If you're playing modern games, you need a lot of drive space.

I partitioned mine at 50gb and was had both Counter Strikes, Day of Defeat, Battlefield2 along with a few other programs here and there and had plenty of space left over.

thnx for everyone's inputs, yea i will only be installing games on bootcamp if they aren't going to be out for mac such as orange box, rainbow 6,

games like quake war and cod4 i m going to install straight onto mac so i can play it whenever i want.

i guess 60gb would be the safe bet though.
