I see in these threads, one of the main reasons for being hesitant to switch platforms(mainly iOS to Android) is paying for the same apps again.

So how much has everyone spent on mobile apps?

For myself on Android, I would say I've spent a lifetime of around $50 on apps. On iOS, it's also around the same. The majority of which I do not even use today.

I'd figure most of the app store earning come from Games. And the highest priced apps are specialized, business, or educational apps. The best sellers are from $0.99 - $5.00.

My switch from iPhone to Android probably cost me $10 at the most to recover the apps I still wanted to use.

Then you have iOS Jailbroken apps, which I probably spent $5 at the most on.

On Android, the Amazon app store has saved me a ton with free apps that would cost in the Play Store, and a ton of points that I can buy paid apps with. The Samsung Galaxy app store also has free apps and offers that would cost in the Play Store.

I rarely make in app purchases to get rid of ads or enable features. When I do, it's only because I'm grateful for the app.

Windows Phone and Blackberry users can chime in too.

When I was pretty big into Windows phone I spent over $30, maybe even $40 on apps. I've probably spent around $15 on apps for IOS and probably the same on android.

Is there a way to find out without manually adding up your order history?

I'd guess $25 to $30 since my changeover from BB in 2008, that number is both Android and iOS. I just won't install stuff on my phone that has advertising.

$0-50 on IOS and Android. I still have some of the $50 credit that Google gave me. I really don't use many apps.

Money spent on apps is one of the lamest excuses, people make much more significant "investments" in things all the time and that isnt an issue. I am not an app person, the only paid ones I have are Pocketcasts, Nova and various games. I prefer using the browser than a damn app for every little thing

Lost count. Probably hundreds of dollars. Easily over $500. For example, I may purchase a variety of RSS, mail, ad-blocker or calculator apps and try them all before settling on one which I feel best suits my needs. Some apps I snagged at half price, but still, they all add up.

And some of these apps like Tweetbot, Overcast and Fantastical have no Android equivalent.

Yup, I've spend a pretty decent amount, far more on iOS.

I don't mind paying for a high quality, well executed app because I want the developer to be compensated for his/her hard work and to continue to support it.

I personally find it quite annoying to see people unwilling to spend a few dollars (or maybe more than a few) for an app yet then everyone bitches about the quality of apps available, that they're sick of ads, or hate the 'freemium model.' Many of us probably spend more time on our phones than any other device yet many will spend 10s or 100s of dollars on software for their PCs/Macs without blinking an eye.

If you want high quality apps, pay up people. Else, shut up.

Sorry...rant over. And to be clear, this isn't directed at any posts here...just a pet peeve of mine.

I use iPhone primarily because of FaceTime with in-laws who don't really know how to use Skype. I use Skype with my parents who don't have an iPhone.

I basically don't buy any apps. I recently purchased an iPad mini 4 for the kids, and I did however purchase one game (XCOM). iOS is really outdated to me. Apple keeps trying to cram in features that iOS wasn't really intended (or ideally suited) to handle.

Separately, I do like the iPad mini because the battery life and the screen is very nice. However, I also like doing things on the side while watching Netflix on the Surface (which is obviously much easier due to screen size but also because multitasking is just easier).

Actually my phone spends most of its time sleeping in my pocket. My desktop gets the most use followed by my laptop

Good for you...notice I didn't say EVERYONE. ;)

And yes, I'm aware many of us make a living on a computer but most don't pay for their work gear, nor the software on it.

i quess around 300 euros in android and about the same or less in ios... i only install paid apps. i could quess i have spent less in ios because of restrictions and there are no apps for ios i use with android. i rarely install any in-app purchases apps / and i hate that freenium model - "pay once" or nothing... Free apps with ads arent welcomed to my devices at all.

Amazon appstore were somewhat good, but it was tied up to the amazon app and uninstalling the app, you lost your apps aswell (some of them). And of course, they were always behind Google Play what came to updates.
