So I think the iPad mini update cycle is around three years.

After this “update” will the iPad mini languish for another three years until the next update?

There was news about Apple moving away from the annual update cycle and actually increasing update times. Is this the start of it? I hope so.

I’m wanting to try out the iPad mini form factor and I’ve been waiting for this update in hopes of a 128gb base storage and 120hz screen. In 2024 I don’t think it’s that big of an ask.

If I have to wait another three years, I don’t know, this update isn’t the instant order I was hoping for.

I might just go with an M2 11” iPad Pro that’s on sale or refurbished instead.

Don’t keep your hopes up on this. Apple could also choose to discontinue the entire product line after a few years, leaving all folks liking smaller screen devices behind just like what they did on iPhone mini. If you like this form factor, just take it. There is a chance this iteration will be the last one.

Does Apple really need to update every product yearly?

Me too, but I don’t think this is the start of anything. I just don’t see refreshing a product on a schedule, especially if there’s no major innovation happening during that timeframe

It’s not going to happen. It’s an iPad mini not an iPad mini Pro. It’s closest comparison would be the iPad Air.

That’s a huge jump from the iPad mini to the iPad Pro.

I could never find a use for the iPad mini so I gave mine away. What is the advantage of the iPad mini compared to the iPad Pro or iPad Air? It’s smaller, but that doesn’t make it more portable. Neither one can fit in regular pockets. I guess if you’re wearing cargo pants, the mini might work. Maybe for woman that carry a purse, but that’s not me.

I’m curious to know what makes you interested in the mini versus the Pro? Maybe I might buy one if I could find a use for it.

I don’t think they need to update every year but if they stick to a “big iPad mini update every three years” convention and they consider this as such, that would make this model six years on the same design and screen technology before the next change. And it’s just underwhelming. I’m sure it makes better financial sense for Apple to make these moves in a slow fashion.

The reason for wanting a mini.
Back in the day I had a Samsung note 8.0 tablet. It was roughly the same size as the iPad mini and I loved it. It had a built in s-pen and it was fantastic to write on. Its size was perfect for my work flow but I was tempted by the 9.7” iPad Pro and switched to iPad. Then I got the 12.9” gen one iPad Pro on a killer deal. It’s way too big for the use cases I had for the note and 9.7”.

Now I have an 11” m1 iPad Pro from work that stays at work and I would like a personal iPad. I know the 11” form factor well and would like to try the mini and just use it as a tablet. Possibly get the new Apple Pencil pro since my current version isn’t compatible.
