As above, running a 5,1 (48GM ram/SSDs/12x3,33). I currently have a GTX680 and am starting to struggle to play anything new. If I got the sapphire RX580 and put that into my 5,1, would there be much of an improvement in bootcamp? I'm wondering if the insides are otherwise to old and would hold the RX580 back?

If anyone has tried the above and could give any insight that would be greatly appreciated!

Hello there,

Suppose it depends on what games you're going to be running, but I've no complaints with the 580. I play Elite Dangerous via bootcamp (windows 10), across 3 monitors, and while the fans do crank up a bit when near a big space station, it's otherwise fine. My son plays Hearts of Iron 4, and that is quite intensive cup and gpu-wise. Same processors as yours, by the looks of it too. Also, it does handle VR okay, although some games won't run.

Cheers,

Razzerman

It's a massive jump in performance from the GTX 680 to the RX 580. I went from a HD 7950 (quite similar performance to the GTX 680) and I can now just push the majority of settings to their maximum and not worry about it too much. I play a lot of sim racing games, as well as the occasional FPS. Games like Tomb Raider, Overwatch, Fortnite and PUBG all run without any issues on a RX 580

I sim race a lot in VR, and this is where the RX 580 starts to stumble. Whilst it can cope admirably with VR it falls short of the performance you would see with a GTX 1060/70/80. That said it really is just a plug and play card and that was what sold it for me. Later on down the road I may build a more powerful Windows system, so I can really push the VR, but for now this will do.

Thanks very much, great to hear. I'm used to gaming on medium/low so I'm sure this will be fine. Planning on building a windows machine in future too but since the prices have gone down decently I'll get this in the meantime.

I wonder if CPU intensive games (city building types) will benefit at all. Thanks!

At what resolution do you want to game? 1080p, 1440p, 4k?

This will have a massive impact on your experience.
