Trying to see if anyone who went from a 15.4” model to the new 14” model can share their experiences. I’ve been using the 15.4 MBP since 2014 and while it still runs perfectly, I want to treat myself to a new gadget (and hopefully it’ll last as long as my current one).

While the new 16” is almost identical in dimension to my current 15.4” (just a bit deeper but slightly shorter), it does weigh 1/2 lb more than my current 15.4”, so I’m trying to stay away from that if I can get away with the 14” model (also to save some cost on the machine and AppleCare).

My concern is the smaller screen size of the 14.2” and want to estimate how much screen real estate will I give up. By my estimation, I’m guessing maybe 1” width wise and 0.5” height wise. Is that a good approximation?

Thanks for your inputs!!

Here is an estimate. I inputted the green fields and the black fields were calculated from that.

1" width and 0.5" height is about right (including the notch/taskbar)

A TV show would appear about 21% larger on the 15.4"

Thank you so much! This helps a lot! Any chance you can throw in the number for a MBA 13.3” so I can see how much bigger 14.2” is compare to 13.3”? My wife has a 13.3” MBA so I can get an idea of 14” off that too. Appreciate it!

Sure. Keep in mind I got the aspect ratio from the resolution (so that's correct) and then I just tweaked the mm measurements until it came out to Apple's stated diagonal size. So might be 1-4 mm off here and there, but close enough to the real thing.

The unlabeled row under logical resolution y is about how big I think icons, menus etc will appear on screen. So the new ones (by my guess) will have all that stuff only about 90% as big as on older models, if that makes a difference
