how much space does "other" take up on your iPhone? iTunes says 400MB for me. that's a lot.

is your phone jailbroken? my phone is jailbroken so I am also wondering are cydia/installer apps included in this "other?"

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

400mb not JB

300Mb Jailbroken. Although I don't have too many jailbreak apps. On the other hand, I have almost 1Gb of App Store apps.

213 MB non-JB

I think is where notes/SMS database/settings/Cache are stored

I believe other included lots of stuff, even apps.

When I upgraded to itunes 8 the "other" got smaller and a new category "apps" was added.

Could this be the discrepancy everyone is seeing?

I too think "Other" included apps until 2.1 came out. I know for sure that Apps weren't reported separately until then.

For me now, Other=215.4 MB and Apps = 318 MB. If those used to be added together in Other, that would total 633.4.

I have not jail-broken my phone.

211.8 MB on mine... does that include album art as well? On the ipod there is an other category as well, but all I have on it is music. I'm kind of leaning on it being part of the firmware upgrade since you can literally delete the firmware or at least part of it from within cydia on a jailbroken iPhone.

240MB or something like that, i did a clean restore just before 2.1, maybe thats why.

"other" in itunes

When you connect the phone in itunes, you see "audio", "video", "photos", "apps", and "other".

What is other? Is this the OS? I thought the os was jsut about 400 mb but I have about 778 mb of "other".
