How much space does the operating system take up on iPad?

I'm wondering which model to get and I'd like to know how much space the OS takes? On my iPhone "other" (which I guess is the OS) is around 400MB.

IIRC when i got my 32gb, there was about 29.5gb abailable.

EDIT: Checked, iPad says capacity 29gb.

What I meant was much space "other" takes up when you look at that bar in iTunes showing how much space everything is taking up on your device.

"Other" may be the indication of the OS itself without actually stating it, but the iPhone OS was about 221MB, so the iPad OS would be slightly larger..
