How much space needed to install Vista Business

I was trying to install Vista business on a 15.4 gb bootcamp partition (with xp installed and about 9 gb free) and neither upgrading from xp nor clean installing would work. It said that it needed space for temporary installation files. Does this mean I need to make my partition bigger? Can I store the temporary files somewhere else? I read that people were able to install Vista with a 15 gb partition..

You might need temporary space for the installation. I advise at least 25-30 GB of drive space for Vista and all its features.

Yeah, you need about 15 gb free to do the install, as the installer works differently from XP. It copies all the files to the HD, then installs. When it's done, it takes up less space (about 6gb I think). Nevertheless, do yourself a favor and allocate at least 25-30 gb, as Eidorian suggests. I went with 60gb myself, just to be on the safe side.

To allocate more space, I'd need to uninstall Bootcamp and Winows XP, reinstall Bootcamp and Windows XP and then upgrade to Vista...Is there no easier way to put Vista on the partition I have now?

You can clone your XP installation to move it to a larger partition.

Vista upgrade = pain the ass.

You can try this though.
