Is it known whether Apple has separate storage for the operating system or if it will be included on the 4gb or 8gb chips? If the phone includes the OS X, even without the libraries etc., it could take up a substantial amount of storage.

I expect OS X in the iPhone to be around 500MB. Maybe less.

So you'll have either 3.5GB or 7.5GB to use. 3.5GB seems too little space, 7.5 seems just the best option.

Well it's not the full version of OS X, and I do think it would be on the main flash drive (whatever its called) of the iPhone.

on a "4gb" hard drive the actual space is like 3.7 so if it is 500mb for the os, then expect around 3.2gb of usable space.
and around 7.2gb of usable on the "8gb" storage.
