I've decided to use about 6.6 GB for music and videos. Will the remaining 1.40 GB be enough for 114 contacts, about 40 bookmarks, and the operating system? My biggest worry is the that operating system takes up a lot of space. But im hoping that the full 8 GB we saw in itunes on the keynote is truthful to the product.

I think that there was somthing about the OS taking up 512MBs, but I don't remember if that was from a reliable source or not. but really it is just guessing mostly at this point, you will know more on friday.

The OS will take up 348MB, bookmarks will take up 13.4 MB and contacts of course will vary, depending on how many you have. /sarcasm

where did you get these numbers? I have yet to see any numbers officially associated or rumored.

I just went into Backup and my contacts take up 6.5 MB for 123 cards. Not all have pictures for each person but I suppose they don't affect them that much.

13mb of bookmarks? Wow. I have a lot of bookmark and they take around 50kb when exported.

You will not have to worry about contacts or bookmarks taking up much space when you are dealing with a multi gigabyte device.

Storage on my Device

I have a T-Mobile MDA (Windows Mobile 5.0) device. I synchronize it to my MacBook using MissingSync.

The database file on windows mobile devices that contain Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks is called pim.vol and is located at the device's root. The size of this file on my device is 5.69MB. I have 1,216 contacts, 1,180 calendar items, and 41 tasks.

I also have 120 favorites saved on my MDA. These take up 10.64kB.

My device has a total available program memory of 44.01MB and storage memory of 47.46MB. It holds 128MB shared total memory.

Of course, the size the various items will take up on the iPhone will depend on the format they are saved.

I hope this info helps some of the speculation.
