Of course you can use 512GB and work off an external SSD and you also can buy 8TB and pretty much don't have to worry about storage. But I would like to know what would your guys say is the sweet spot where you can edit plenty and if you have a really really big project edit of an external ssd.

I'm assuming you're referring to internal SSD storage based on your OP, but you might want to clarify the thread and poll title to say that. Also, will this computer be 100% dedicated to video editing on an internal SSD, or will you also be storing photos, music, and documents on the internal SSD (and how much of those?). Also what is the average size of a project you'd work on? I'm assuming you offload completed projects to external storage?

Sorry for the not 100% clear definition. Yes i speak of the internal SSD, there will also be other files but mostly stuff for editing (animations, after effects, broll, aroll, plug ins, etc.)
Yes, finished projects will get off loaded to a NAS. So im only working on 3-7 projects at one time, but the plugins should remain on the internal ssd.
The size of current projects without proxys is about 10-30GB, with proxys much bigger (up to 150GB or more).

1080p -- 1tb on the "working drive" should do fine. When a project is finished, "archive it off" to a backup/archive drive.

4k -- you're gonna need "more"...
