How many stores do you think will stock the MacBook Airs when they are released? Will all the official stores have them on the day of release? I'm hoping to get a MacBook air on the day of release in Apple Store Chapelfield.

All apple stores should have a stock of airs on the release date.

I can't think of any reason that any store wouldn't, unless their delivery truck crashes and all the macs break or something, haha. The amount of stock they have will likely vary, however, depending on the projected demand for each store.

If you want to be sure, just call your local store once the new airs are released and ask them.

Not sure. The only way to really know is to call when they come out. I would think that might vary store to store, depending on how big your store is and how much traffic it gets.

Worst case scenario, you call or go in and they don't have it, so you have to order online and wait a couple days, shouldn't be too bad.

Whats the minimum amount of new MBAs a store would carry you think?

Haha, how many do you plan on buying?? :p

I don't think they will sell out though. iPhones and iPads are the only apple items that they can't keep up with the demand for.

I don't work at an apple store so I have no idea how many of each item they keep in stock, but again I think it depends on the size of the store.

Dont worry so much, there will be enough in stock, even if you went in the evening. It is unlikely that they will sell out on the first day.

All Apple stores will have them for sure, unless there was some crazy situation. Best Buys and other Apple resellers *should* have them on the first day, but may get them anytime in the first week.

Good Im planning on buying 15...jkn just 1 does Best Buy get them on the release date?

I believe they do, they will probably have less selection than Apple though (for example, they may not have the ultimate configuration available)

Apple stores almost always have the ultimate configs in stock. But, you'd have to call before to find out and when you get there, make sure you ask for that specific model to a manager since they do not advertise the ultimate ones outside nor do they usually tell people about it.

Well thanks for the responses. Lets just hope the new ones are out before Friday this week. I'm going on Holiday then and am planning on taking it with me.

Not all stores get stock in the same day.

Some get them in dribs and drabs to start off with and some don't get it at all for a few days. My local store (Glasgow) doesn't get them on release... or it depends... if the online stores go down after 3-4pm'ish then they start putting them on display the following day. This has happened with the iMacs where when I called them at 5 - they're like.... erm what new iMacs lol

Best Buy never carries anything more than the base configuration of any Macintosh computer in the store.

On a related note, what'll happen to an Apple Store's stock of Core Duo Airs? Will they be sold through the store at clearance or will I only be able to get those through the website?

Nope. Only German keyboards there.

Some stores have started taking them off display, they get sent back to Apples central distribution centre where they are sorted and then put up for sale on Apple's refurbished online store. Thats the only place to get them.

In my experience only stores with high turn over carry ultimates. Call before hand.

On the 2010 MBAs, the stores I checked only had base models for the first week or so. Afterwards, they carried more models including the ultimates.

All 3 stores in Portland Oregon have very high volumes because Portland is a no sales tax state. We seem to cater to much of the population of Washington and Western Canada... as well as the California population coming on biz trips or vacation to Oregon. I would expect stores in other no sales tax states to be the same, especially those near the boarders such as the PLM in New Hampshire.

I suspect they will carry a broader range of configurations this time.
