Care to share a printscreen of your storadge use - and explain your use case of the iPad and what model it is? I am considering 512Gb for the new purchace, I know its a bit overkill, but I feel like I wanna have that much.

So, how much are you actually using, and what apps take the most of it?

Using 367GB of 512, 2021 12.9 Pro. Big hitters -

nPlayer - 111GB (videos)
Photo Manager Pro - 41GB (Photos from DSLR)
Audible - 35GB
Music - 16GB
Kindle - 11GB
Photos - 7GB (Photos & video imported from iPhone)
FileBrowser Pro - 6GB (Docs)

I like to keep things local as I don't use cloud storage and simpler than an external drive for videos & photos.

I have a 256 GB iPad Pro M1 12.9” and I have 149 GB free space.
I use my iPad mostly for

1) Personal use
- Video streaming services / youtube
- Web browsing
- email
- Apple Arcade games / few other games such as Civ 6
- home banking apps
- Travel apps
- FaceTime occasionally
- a bit of social media (twitter mostly)

2) Work use
- communication :Teams meetings / MS Office Mail
- Signing documents (MS Office)
- Light office work in general / Onedrive / Microsoft D365 apps such as Sharepoint, Office (excel, word), TODO,…
- Web Apps for my reporting and group consolidation work

Most of the storage goes to the games and video’s i save for trips and such.

Because I am using iCloud I am using only 47GB of 256GB (11" iPad Pro).
Whether or not you will use iCloud (and optimize photos and enable Offload Unused Apps) is a big factor in deciding how much storage to get.

This is how much I’m using. As you can see I would save a lot of space by just moving my photos to iCloud. I personally prefer to have them stored on the device since I have space. Other apps are just quite a few games.

527GB used of 1TB, movies being the main culprit followed by comics and manga.

Going on a short trip next week where internet is crappy so I'll probably download another 100-200GB worth of comics/manga over the weekend. I like having plenty of watching/reading options to choose from.

Very little. 16 from my 32gb iPad (5th gen). Most large items accessed from the cloud or 1tb computer (Mac Mini) via home WiFi. And don't travel. As mentioned, situations vary wildly in dictating storage needs.

If you can afford 512 and want 512, just go for 512. Not sure any number of screenshots of other people's usage is going be helpful to you. Everyone's use-cases are totally different, and you tend to expand how much is in use based on how much you have. My phone (256) is way fuller than my iPad (64), but only because I have to actually pay attention to what's on my iPad whereas I just let my phone fill up and only occasionally bother to look at how much storage I'm using.

I have had 256GB iPad Pro 11s for the last 4 years. I've always used about 50-60GB. So for my iPad upgrade this year I went with a 128GB iPad Pro 11 and I'm using about 36GB. I use my iPad mostly as a reader, video watcher, and web browser - with some note taking on Notability.

I've got 128GB of photos (optimized turned on). 3.8GB of books (not all downloaded offline). And about 18GB of iMessages total - and about 8GB of music total but I don't usually download those all cuz that's on my iPhone.

No idea, storage disease here. 64.4GB of 64GB available…

About 8GB of video from the part of the menu that loads properly, from memory about 1GB of music and 2GB of photos. 3.91 GB of unused apps apparently.

I just purchased a 2021 Macbook Pro 14, so I plan to free up some space on the ipad pro, with hopes of selling it soon.

Seriously need more space.....?
First gen iPad Pro (2015), which is still fantastic, however when I got it didn't think I would need much storage, so went with 32gb....
More recently have been reading a lot of comics/graphic novels from Apple Books, and space is running short.

Like to have everything downloaded from iTunes/Books etc, as things tend to disappear from the store now and then.
So for now everything is downloaded on my Mac, just in case.

All of the videos on my iPad are ones that I’m yet to watch, once watched I delete. I had a large podcast library I meant to get around to, but it wiped itself and I couldn’t remember everything I had downloaded, so that cleared some space.

I think the main reason for small storage use for me is that I haven’t used an iPhone for about 4.5 years. So photos aren’t automatically syncing, as they’re on Google Drive and the SD card in my phone.

I assumed external drives only worked within the Files App, and there are no options to save to Files for Music/Movies etc.
