I want to buy a new Mac and trade-in my old one. But I will need some time to move things over, etc. How much time do they allow you before you have to send in your old Mac?

Thank you in advance

Sounds like it's 14 days from the receipt of the trade-in kit if you're doing it with Apple's trade-in partner, Phobio (per this Apple community discussion https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250894569). You can also trade it in person at an Apple store, which is much less risky. There are stories here on MR about members having bad experiences with lowball counteroffers based on non-existent damage. Search for Phobio if you want to read more.

You may wish to also check out macmeanoffer.com (macofalltrades.com) who I've used, and cashforyourmac.com who I haven't. Then your sale isn't coupled to your purchase.

I've done two trades with CashForYourMac.com and I highly recommend them. The trade-in amounts were quite a bit higher than Apple's, but I knew I wasn't going to go the Apple route anyway. CFYM was very professional and friendly, and responded to email questions right away. I've heard great things about MacMeAnOffer.com too on MacRumors. The nice thing is you can get a trade-in quote anonymously on CFYM, and maybe on MMAO too.

Apple's uses a trade-in partner called Phobio and you may end up receiving even less than the already stingy amount they promised, once they receive your device. Have a look at swappa.com and similar websites to get much more.

Just to be clear, Swappa is a good place to sell your device/machine outright, but it's not a trade-in site. Trading in can be more convenient than selling, but you will usually get more selling. A useful thing to do on Swappa is to find your device and look at what they'e recently sold for there.

Good advice, I have also used to Swappa before and had good results. Need to remember it is a person to person sale, not selling to a wholesaler as are the other suggested options.

One additional point about swappa: sold prices are good info. Be wary of the pricing of the for sale ones, though, they’ve not yet sold at the listed price.

+ another for MacMeAnOffer. They pay more than Apple's subcon and they have a better reputation.

Thank you all for the replies. I will check out the other web sites. Of topic slightly but if you going to see camera equipment, I've recently discovered MPB.com and they give about 75% of what things sell for on eBay. Most camera shops give you only about 50%. My first transaction was just super nice. The second one that just completed was a bit slow. They say they are getting a lot of equipment right now which is why it took more time.

In my case, 2-3 weeks, according to Apple.

There's how it works (in my case):

- When ordering, you "declare" the traded computer details (SN, damage...)
- You pay the total import of the new computer
- When your computer is sent, the company (an external company) will send you the Trade package. You can track everything in your Apple ID details/Orders. There's also instructions of how-to prepare your traded computer
- When you receive the trade package, you sent the package with your traded computer
- When your package is received and everything is checked and ok (according to your "declaration"), Apple will return the accorded money to your payment method. In my case, Apple must return 310eur to my credit card

So, the new computer delivery and trade-in process are different ones. Maybe you receive first the new computer, maybe first Apple pay you the trade-in import. In my case, surely i will receive the trade-in import, because the delivery is set to 22 dec.
