I have an issue where the swipe to open works sometimes and not others. Also, sometimes the iphone (5s) screen is responding to touches that I didn't do (hands no where near the phone). For example, it takes the phone out of speaker mode multiple times during a conversation. One time, I even saw the speaker button being "touched", but not by me. I have to pay real close attention in case it happens so I don't have the person on the other end think I'm ignoring them.

This is a pesky problem!

I've tried removing the case, making sure all apps not running, partial reset, cleaning the screen, etc. The only thing that works, temporarily is rebooting the darn thing.

Then about three phone calls later, it all happens again...

I found a Web site that describes this problem and its most likely cause: Hardware Issue.

Based on the Apple support URL below, it looks like I need to have the screen worked on.

Does anyone have a ballpark on how much this screen replacement might cost and if they replace the screen or whatever while you wait (at the Apple Store)?

Thanks for any insights on this.

Some have reported that a restore can solve these symptoms. Others haven't needed to even do that; resetting settings suffices:

Settings => General => Reset => Reset All Settings

Failing all that, it's possible that putting a simple screen protector over the screen might be enough to sort it out.

If all else fails, your best bet on determining pricing - and especially on turn-around time - would be to call the store you intend on visiting. If you do have it repaired, I strongly advise you put the phone "through its paces" when you go to pick it up, before you let the person who hands it over out of your sight.

Thanks for your reply with pricing info.

I'm crossing my fingers, but backing up, erasing the iphone and restoring, seems to have fixed the issue.

I'm confused why backing up the phone and then restoring the same backup would solve ... anything, but hey, no issues for a few days now.

I'll post back if it turns out to be the display.

Thanks again,
