I’m considering upgrading to the M2 11” iPad Pro when Apple announces it. What do you guys think an old 2018 11” 64GB iPad Pro is worth ?
it’s now pretty useless and old with just 4GB RAM and the A12X CPU which bested by a Qualcomm SD 8 Gen 1.

Check the current trade in value and then take a third or so off for a ballpark guess.

About $250 for IPP 2018 11" 64Gb. Here is a link:

The A12X Bionic chip, btw, is one of the best chips Apple ever made. "Useless" is a term I would not attach to any IPP 2018 11" model with a A12X bionic, great iPads to this day. Those prices above seem a little low, so I'd price around.

Out of curiosity, what are you trying to do that your current A12X iPad is either unable to do, or is doing slowly?

Back in October, Apple gave me $515 for my 2018 12.9 iPad Pro. Now that we are in march, I'd check Apple trade in. if i had to guess, I'd say $480

Probably premature to ask the question. There don't seem to be any rumors that updated iPad Pros will be released in the near future. An Air 5 will likely be announced at the early March event. So the trade in value of your 2018 iPad right now is probably not what the trade in value will be when the 2022 iPad Pros are available. And as others have noted, there is absolutely nothing obsolete with your current iPad. The A12x was and is a very powerful processor. Sure the M1 in the current model benchmarks faster, but the performance differences will be moot unless you do some heavy lifting with your iPad. Might make a difference with some games? I'm still using a 9.7" Pro with an A9x (I think, at least it's some variant of the A9) and it's still mostly meeting my needs. But other than a little light photo editing when traveling, my uses place few demands on the processor. I am planning to upgrade in the not to distant future. Battery life on mine is not nearly what it once was and I suspect it won't run the next generation of iPadOs.

Actually, there have been several rumors of a new iPad Pro in March, including wireless charging.

From the GB5 scores I’ve seen, it seems the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is barely faster than the A12X. It’s only around 10% faster in single core and is even slower at multi-core.

If the low RAM isn’t too much of an annoyance, the 2018 Pros are still very good performers.

Do you mostly just watch videos on it?

Personally, I dislike using the Pro 9.7 for web browsing nowadays. Apps are mostly OK. It’s JS and media heavy web browsing (even with content blocker on) that I find quite annoying.

I read, web surf, watch videos and movies, check email. When traveling I've done some photo editing. Though as I say that it's been a while and don't know how it would do current editing software. I don't really use it for work at all. I use some fairly specialized software. I've never really thought of it as a laptop replacement. I suspect a newer 12.9 with pencil might meet my photo editing needs. And the 9.7" really won't. I really don't need a Pro except that I value the quality of the screen and speakers. Every-time I think seriously about upgrading I decide my old one is still sufficient. Sort of wish the dang thing would just fail catastrophically so I could just upgrade already.

Those multi-core scores for the A12x chip are really mind blowing. The A12x was used as the base architecture for the M1, so the A12x and the M1 are closer than cousins. Apple is currently selling (refurb) the 2018 IPP 11", 256Gb for $599. That is still a sweet buy.

Useless, really?
I am thoroughly enjoying my 2018 11" iPP and currently have no desire or need to upgrade, and use it for photo-editing, Fresco, notes, etc. Perhaps it is inadequate for you, but is more than adequate for many people.

I just checked the trade-in value on my 2018 11" iPP by entering my serial number on Apple's trade in web page and get this:

Not quite. The A12Z was a generation before the M1 and is about 40% slower in single core and multi-core. The A12X is the same SoC as the A12Z with one less GPU core.

The M1 is based on the A14 not the A12.
