With the 2018 iPad costing only $329, but adding Apple Pencil functionality, the gap between it, and the iPad Pro 10.5, is narrower than ever. I don’t know if I can justify spending basically twice the money for the Pro model at this point.

So with that said, how much do you think the next iPad Pro should or will cost? Let’s assume it has a faster processor (duh), and almost non-exsistant bezels, thanks to Face ID. We’re talking something around an 11 inch screen, in the body of today’s iPad. I really think $500 would be perfect. And I’d love to see a package where you get the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard for something like $700, or $729.

Do you think the new iPad Pro will still start at $650, and if so, will a slightly larger screen/Face ID be enough to justify the cost over the 2018 iPad?

The current Pro still has a much better screen, super smooth scrolling, double the storage capacity (something lots of folks discount or ignore when comparing those 2 devices), and smart connector/keyboard support. I think keeping the next Pro at the existing price will be more than justified. I even think the current Pro's price is justified, even with the new non-Pro iPad, because all those things I listed are really important to me. If none of those things matter to someone, then yes, they will think the Pro is overpriced.

Apple will charge whatever they want and people will still buy it. There is no other tablet that is comparable as iPad in the market. But regardless what price, I have no interest with upgrade this year. I have no interest with FaceID nor the notch.

My best guess is the price will be the same, and it'll seem slightly more justified than it currently does because of the minimal bezel design and FaceID.

My hope would of course be lower.

Current MSRP is $649 for Pro 10.5 64GB. I expect that to either stay the same or even creep up a little bit.

Yea I know they went up last year due to higher NAND flash prices. I was thinking those issues have been resolved and they could maybe drop it down a bit. You are probably right though, $649 or $699 may be more accurate.

I don’t believe it was because of NAND.

Upon release, pricing for the 10.5 was 64GB/$649, 256GB/$749 and 512GB/$949. Then I think a couple of months later, it became 64GB/$649, 256GB/$799 and 512GB/$999 due to higher NAND prices.

It’s possible Apple might lower pricing for higher storage capacities but I believe base pricing will probably remain the same (or might even go a few bucks higher).

Makes sense, you're probably right.

If they keep the price the same ($649) for the base model, I would hope they bump storage capacity to 128GB.

Personally, I hope they drop the price.

Also, does anyone know why kind of memory is used in the iPad pro’s? (Tlc, mlc, Slc)

Did iPads ever use SLC? Given the cost and timeframe of launch, I would think the original iPad would be using MLC already. SLC often costs 10x more than MLC.

Right now, they use TLC, I believe. Iirc, Apple made the switch around iPhone 6s? I know there was one generation where they used a mix of MLC and TLC.

Sad but probably true. If I ever want to upgrade this 12.9, it will be on sale. I will avoid Apple’s full prices wherever possible going forward.

I wouldn't mind seeing a price cut, and I hope we'll see one. It won't help me, as I'm pretty content with my IPP.

iPad 10.5 Wifi is 729€ with taxes in Europe. Next one maybe 799€.

I am concerned because after adding "Pro" behind the name "iMac", the prices became crazy high. If they add "X" behind iPad, the cost will become crazy high as well.

iPad Pro 10.5” —>
Steps 10 and 11: https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPad+Pro+10.5-Inch+Teardown/92534

In the model they did a tear down of: Toshiba THGBX669D4LLDXG

With the standard iPad dropping $170 from $499 to $329 I could see a similar price drop for the iPad Pro. My guess is we will likely see something like this moving forward.
$329 - 32GB iPad 9.7"
$429 - 128GB iPad 9.7"

$499 - 64GB iPad Pro 10.5/11"
$599 - 128GB iPad Pro 10.5/11"
$699 - 256GB iPad Pro 10.5/11"

$650 - 64GB iPad Pro 12"
$750 - 128GB iPad Pro 12"
$850 - 256GB iPad Pro 12"
or Apple knowing Apple they will drop the iPad Pro 2 price down to start at $499 and leave the new iPad Pro 3 at the higher cost......

I don't know why people are expecting an iPad Pro price drop. If the rumors of smaller bezels and Face ID are true, prices are going to go up, not down. I am waiting to see if I can snag a 2017 iPad Pro 12.9" in Gold for a bit of a discount when the new models are announced

I don't know if I EXPECT it to drop, but to the average user, if they are debating between an 9.7 inch iPad, or 10.5 inch Pro, although the Pro has lots of great exclusive features, they won't be immediately noticeable to most. I'd just think Apple would want to clearly separate the lines, so that people know exactly why it is more expensive to get a Pro.

I don't see Apple lowering prices (maybe for storage upgrades, but not base). Besides, this was already the pricing last year.

iPad 5th gen
$329 32GB Wi-Fi
$429 128GB Wi-Fi

iPad Pro 10.5
$649 64GB Wi-Fi
$749 256GB Wi-Fi
$949 512GB Wi-Fi

iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen
$799 64GB Wi-Fi
$899 256GB Wi-Fi
$1099 512GB Wi-Fi

I expect higher markup for the Pro models make up for lower pricing on the entry level 9.7 somewhat.
