How much will you pay for a Macbook?

When the Macbook was first rumored, I assumed it would be $999 like the current iBook. I decided that if I could keep it under $1,000 it would be time to replace my aging G3 ibook.

Then the Intel Mac Mini's came out $100 more expensive and the assumption is that the base model will now be $1,099. At that price, I toyed with the idea of a Mac Mini instead, but finally decided that I would buy a new Macbook if it wasn't more than $1,099.

Now, as we hopefully get closer to the actual launch date, I'm thinking about possible upgrades (hard drive, memory, or maybe graphics card). So now, I've revised my limit upwards again. As of today, my limit is $1,299 (but still subject to change!).

How much will you pay for the new Macbook?
 
If both models are duo-core and is offered in black, 1099 including 1GB ram. I'd buy it in white for the same price as well, but preferred if black was a choice. If single-cores, 1GB upgrade to 999. I don't believe it'll be a higher price than the previous. I mean, the G4 Mac Minis didn't have Bluetooth/Airport (100 buck option I believe) so the intel models didn't have a price difference.

Macbooks are for lightweight duty. Portable lightweight that does internet and spreadsheet/word.
 
It depends on the Specs.

Dell has their E1505 Solo for $699.

I suspect Apple's MacBook will be very similar, only a 13.3" (smaller*) screen, and a 1.5 GHz Core Solo (slower*) processor. Only Apple will charge $1099. :rolleyes: But I'll buy it anyway.

* - When compared to the Dell E1505 Solo
 
I wouldn't go over $1,600, because then it would be like buying a MBP but worse, but for almost the same money.

It doesnt make sense for Apple not to have a high end 13". There will be a 13"MBP or atleast a highly spec'd 13" MB, something with dedicated grpahics and a chunky enough Duo. These are just a guess but i like the look of them

Is it true you can put OS X on these now and they will work fully?

Why would Apple inculd more RAM in it low end laptop then the iMac? It coming with 512mb.. the all Macs with512mbs when they ship is fairly new.
 
For a black one I would want something like a 1.83 duo with 1 gig ram 128vid shared since that seems to be the trend and a 14" wide. I'd probably be willing to shell out $1400 for that.

I meant, with upgraded 1GB, I would pay a grand total of 1099. Same goes for the single core. I'm not stupid here.
 
I want something between $1299 and $1499, preferably. It would be nice if it was 1.66ghz or 1.83ghz core duo, definitely. I want at least 60 gb harddrive. I really wish this were more of a Powerbook 12" replacement than iBook, because I almost picked up the Powerbook back around Christmastime but my Dad wanted to wait because of the MBP rumors. (We're still waiting and now it's getting to the time where I could actually really use the stupid thing for school.) So at this point, I'll take about anything. I want it to keep the MBP form factor though, because I think that's prettier. Failing that, I'll probably go white unless the black scratches less than the black iPod.
 
I won't pay more than $999 if the specs are the same as the $599 Mac Mini with a Core Solo and integrated graphics. I will pay $1099 for a Core Duo or a decent graphics card with a Core Solo. I won't spend anymore than $1099 though because I'm eventually upgrading my 17" PBG4 to a 17"MBP and I don't need something too fancy in a MacBook. I also really, really hope that they come in black because that would just be awesome and it would match the inside of my truck where I plan to use it most.
 
A few months ago, I'd have quite happily paid whatever to own an iBook replacement. New work put paid to that, but did have the benefit of 'allowing' me (well, justifying it in my mind, at least) to buy a MBP.

To be honest, the one reason was screen size. I didn't particularly want an external monitor on my desk space, and whilst there's not much difference in size between my last 14" iBook and the 15" MBP, the increased resolution and screen brightness was a bit of an eye-opener. I'd obviously seen the machines in the Apple stores, but it's only after you have a play around for a few hours that you appreciate it.

That said, I'd be suprised if the screen on any new Macbook wouldn't be really brilliant. The chances are I'd buy one just 'because'! Hmm...maybe a present for my folks...one that they never use...hmm.

I wouldn't go for black though - one look at scratched Nano put paid to that idea. That and my car...

I think for a Fire Red colored,Core Duo 1.83 Ghz,512MB, X1600(128 MB), DL SuperDrive,80 GB, 13.3" MacBook. I`ll definitely pay 999$.
Yes that should be it. Wait, with the edu discount I`ll be paying somewhere around 850. That`ll be a good price.

I would only buy a Core Duo macbook. I would not max it out with Apple because it costs a lot. £850 base price from Apple and then i will upgrade the Ram and HDD and, if it will be possible, the VRAM card.
 
I'll be waiting for the price drops on iBook G4's :D

If I end up paying big money for a laptop, I'm waiting for the Merom
upgrade.

An iBook will hold most students through their first 2 years and by that time the MacBooks will be much more stable and proven.

For those who MUST run Windows, the MacBook, top end core duo model should make a lot of people happy.
 
All depends on the specs.

For a core solo with integrated graphics? Nothing. I'd rather keep my G4.

For a core duo with integrated graphics? Maybe $1099 to $1299 depending on the rest of the specs.

For something like this?
