How much would the Air be WITHOUT SSD/Flash storage?

Im not sure if they make HHD this thin, but if it was a standard hard drive, what would the price be?
For sale, an SSD, it about $300 for 128 gb, so would the price be $300 less?

This isnt a big deal, and I would NEVER want a MBA without an SSD. just fyi

I guess so, why would you need this information? the SSD really "makes" the MBA. They don't make hard drives this small, and hell, they don't really even make SSDs small enough to fit the MBA; they're a new, smaller design.

probably 180 less ? It costs a bit for those 1.8 inch drives but not as much as an SSD.

Current MBAs would need some custom-built hard drives (even 1.8 inch drives are too big), so it would probably be more expensive than SSD.

MacBook Air works great due to the SSD. It's not all about specs.

I think I phrased that vaguely. I use an MBA as my primary computer; I meant to ask who'd pay $1000+ for a laptop with the MBA's specs (C2D, 2GB RAM) and a mechanical HDD.

if all other specs remained the same (c2d, 1.4 - 1.8 ghz processor, ram, etc), and you put in a regular hdd (assuming it fit), i think apple would have to price it in a range similar to netbooks on the market (probably at the top of the range, because you know apple). i think the ssd makes the mba what it is, and without it, the 11 inch mba probably wouldn't sell at a price point higher than $5-600, and the 13 inch mba, maybe absolute tops $999 (like the old white macbooks).

*edit: actually, given apple's reputation with selling high priced products, like the original mba, they could probably increase the price from what it is today (by a few hundred dollars) and still sell them like hotcakes...
