How often do you guys buy a new mac?

(Either because the last one you had broke or because you wanted to replace the old one, or an addition)

I would say for me...every...3-4 years.

I've had my rev.b 12" PB for 2 years. I will replace this with a macintel in a year or two.

I've had my computer for about 4-5 years. I'd like to be able to update more frequently, but macs are pretty expensive to do that very often. There's no way that I'd use anything other than a mac though. (other than at work where I don't have a choice)

I currently own 3 Macs (!). I bought my first Mac more or less when the OSX public beta came out (2000?). Including the 3 I own now I've bought 5. To start with there was quite a while between new ones, but purchases have been getting closer together...

I bought my first Mac three years ago and just bought a new one recently. After about three years it seemed that all of the cool new stuff would not work on my old machine anymore. Playing H.264 content was one of them. My old computer was a 700 Mhz iMac.

December 1995 - Performa 6200CDTV
Jan 2001 - Tiny Pentium - big mistake - sent it back
April 2001 - G4 Cube :D
November 2004 - iBook G4 12"

I imagine that in the future I will alternate between iBooks and iMacs, about 3 years between purchases.

every two years. That way they still retain fair amount of resale value, and I can get the latest and greatest.

I've owned two desktop models so far and they each stayed with me five years. When I buy my laptop, I would expect 3-4 years before I'm hunting for another.

oh wow so i guess everyone averages around 3/4 years.

The thing is, though, it's not like we NEED to change the macs, but they just come out with such nice stuff and we all desire to have nice looking stuff don't we now :p

Not me sir! I'm incredibly indecisive and all too willing to need new stuff.

This year alone, I'll have had

a G3 700 mhz 12" iBook
a G4 1.5 ghz 12" Powerbook
G4 Mac Mini
and as soon as I sell my mini (in process of doing) I'll have a 550-667 TiBook.

4 in one year. sheesh.

Once every...umm, wait a minute! I bought my first Mac (Power Mac dual) this year! :D

A PowerBook sounds tempting, to complement the desktop, but that will have to wait...either the last PPC PB or the merom Rev B. Too bad that might be a long wait for now! :(

But I'm hoping my next upgrades would be after 2009. Just to keep my pocket healthy. :)
