How on Earth do I turn two partitions back into one?

I have an external drive that I split into two partitions.

I now want it back as one.

No amount of clicking, looking through Disk Utility's "help" or Googling is offering me any real-world, helpful advice.

I'm on High Sierra.

Without wishing to exper8ment on my disks, have you tried deleting the partitions? And then repartioning the drive?

How can I do that? There's no option to delete the partition.

Clicking on a partition and selecting "Erase" just offers to reformat (I still have two partitions).

On the partition map, selecting a partition means the "-" is greyed out, so I can't remove it.

I can't select a partition and increase it to 2TB (full HDD size) without deleting one, but I can't seemingly delete one.

What happened to the good ol' instruction manual...?

After choosing "Show all Devices", you should be able to select the disk (the hierarchical parent of the partitions) and the Erase button should be enabled.

I have no idea why Apple have made it so difficult to find and so hard to get any help on the subject, but all sorted now.
