This is my problem too. I like to browse the movies & tv shows by genre, especially on new release day. It's like Apple really doesn't want much money from me anymore.
Yeah. I found Cheap Charpets a few years back and it became my most used app. It works simply and lovely. This was how the wishlist function with iTunes should have always worked.Have you ever tried CheapCharts? It's a work-around to Apple's TV mess.
Plus the service sends you notifications when a movie or TV show you want goes on sale. And as of now, it's easier to browse CheapCharts than the store in the TV app.

Not sure if we are allowed to post external links here, but this is the website (they also have a great iOS app and tvOS app). https://www.cheapcharts.info/us
This push has had me pivoting back to my physical media and their respective dedicated hardware for enjoyment. Having 1000s of items at my fingertips just seems to make them less likely to be a song or movie that becomes a life love. It all becomes background noise otherwise it seems.ive always loathed the TV app on the Apple TV and find it hugely unintelligent and frustrating to use. It looks like I’ll be using the iTunes Store on iOS devices now rather than on my macs to make purchases. Then again they’ll probably screw that up so it only works for people who ask Siri ”show me some comedies”. I mean in the real world does anyone choose something to buy or watch using such broad parameters?

I did checked those out, but they only take you to a small curated selection of available content for purchase and not the full store. The only current way to access the full movie/TV show section of the iTunes Store is on iPad, iPhone and Apple TV since those devices have the dedicated store app.Browse By Genre is the last selection on each tab for Movies and TV Shows. Have to scroll all the way down. Haven't used it much yet but it seemed to work fine.
