Hello

I'm stuck between getting a 15' and a 17'. How portable is the 17' though? Is it really inconvenient? Or is it really not that bad?

Also, How bad is the battery life on the 17' since it doesn't have the LED backlighting. I hear around 5 1/2 hours?

I'd be shocked if someone could get 5 1/2 hours out of the 17" MBP. Shocked I say!

(politely not rising to the 17 foot MacBook Pro jokes either ;) )

It's really portable, a bit heavy but no problems taking it around. The only real problem with it is that it doesn't really fit on Airplane tray tables all too well.

Get the 17", you won't regret it.
PS I get around 4 hours of battery life with the display turned down and volume off, Airport is on.

If you can, go to a brick and mortar Apple Store and check one out in person, my desire to have a 17" laptop instantly died when I saw one in person :)

I'm kinda in the same position. I've seen the two side by side and the decision is still as difficult as it's just impossible to know until you've actually carried it around with you.

One thing that did put me off a bit was that the Apple Store in Regent St, London only had I think one bag suitable for the 17"er. Its almost like they don't expect you to carry it round!

The decision is how often you plan to carry it around. I don't think
the 17 is the one for serious portable use.

But the occasional once a week or so portability may make it
the choice for those who want the screen real estate.

I actually think a macbook and a mac pro at home is the way to go
if you can afford it.
