iPhone How safe is JailBreaking?

If you follow instructions nothing bad will happen. If anything does go bad, then just restore. Jailbreaking hasn't bricked iPhones... its unlocking that does it. But since you are looking for customization... nothing bad will happen.

Yeah, I'm not worried about the instillation but rather in the long term, am I going to be more prone to Malware, people locating my device etc etc?

In general you will be safe. The jailbreak community is fast in terms of closing security holes. Apple takes a month or so (unless its very critical) to issue an update to close security vulnerabilities.

Moreover, the jailbreak community is always on constant watch for malware sites. Cydia itself has a list of websites and will warn you when you add a repo or source that is known for malware.

Ok, thanks, I'm really anal about people know my location and so on. Main issue that is stopping me from switching to Android.

Just use common sense when it comes to apps. Check reviews for apps online before downloading if you fear malware that much. There is always people talking about jailbreak apps.

No offense, but you're all over the place.. and I think you're missing the point. Customization tweaks require software that is downloaded from Cydia.

I guess the question to ask is, how are you planning to customize your phone without using cydia?

I never said I wasn't going to use Cydia did I?, I'll be using it to get my widgets and tweaks and that's all.
 
You don't seem to know enough to JB. Do more readings or else don't do it cause you will end up crying for mistakes you do.
