How should I price this website?

Hi there,

I've been developing a website for my boss at Dairy Queen, and I'm facing one dilemma - I don't know how to price the work I've done for him.

To start off, here's the URL:

The work's almost done. Right now, it's on a free account at Awardspace, which has some limitations. Once I help him move it to a Yahoo! server, I can start doing scripting out an a feedback form, a cake ordering form, and a job application form. All 3 pages will use the exact same template as the other pages, so only development scripting is left, not design.

So far, I've played the role of designer, programmer, and writer, and later on, I'll be doing developer stuff too.

How much would you pay for this particular project that I've done?

mmhh sounds about right.
When I build websites freelance, I get between $40 - $60 depending. But it really is just a hobby to pay for my photography.

When I work as a cook, the job I am trained to do and the only one I am actually any good at , I get $25/hour cash.

I love prostituting myself.:)

My advice for next time Eric, agree on a price upfront. Ask him what he wants, work out how long it is going to take: $$$ x hrs, quote him a price. See if he agrees or not.....

Good advice cookie1105. :) The bottom line is making sure that you get paid (and that you get paid the amount you deserve). It is always good to have this sort of thing in writing, or at least agree upon the terms of the deal upfront. :)

But I still have a problem. I remember how many hours I spent on the job (roughly 25 hours throughout the month; I really did it at my own pace, spending an hour a day on it). It's my first project ever done... how much would you charge an hour?

It wouldn't cost $50/hr for me, would it? After all, I'm pretty new to this.

I would agree, if you are new to it and spent extra time going at your own pace, then I would probably charge a lower rate.

Maybe quote a flat price, 25 hours x 25 an hour, $500. That's my opinion. However, there is something to be said for always get as much money as you can.

Thanks for your help. I've narrowed my price range to around $40-$50/hr, since that seems like the norm out there (when I did my own Googling, I found that rate too).

The work's still not done, but once the work shifts to web development (i.e. PHP, MySQL etc.), more hours will be spent on it.
