Hi all,

As you probably know, macOS Sonoma is going to be available on September 26th, according to Apple. That is very surprising, because Ventura came out in October and so did Monterey.

Last year I updated to macOS Ventura. There are things about it that I like, and things that I do not. It seems like battery life has been really bad in Ventura. I do also feel like there has been a drop in performance in Ventura. I am wondering, how stable is Sonoma compared to Ventura? Is the performance better? Is the battery life better? FYI, I use a 2019 13" MacBook Pro.

I also plan on updating a couple months after release when 14.3 or 14.4 comes out.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated!

there's no one answer to this; so many users, so many different experiences. i personally had no issues in ventura, and having none right now in sonoma (am on the RC).

see what others say, then move forward if you're ready to move forward. that's all there is...

From a stability standpoint, Sonoma has been remarkably stable throughout the beta. With that being said, it's hard to give any sort of accurate assessment regarding battery life until people have spent some time with the RC or public versions, because both the developer and public betas had some stuff running under the hood for diagnostic purposes.

This is always a risk/reward scenario and as previously said, quite subjective with many variables.

I can only add that in my case, I had SMB network issues with Ventura current that I am no longer experiencing with Sonoma beta. In my experience, Sonoma beta has been reliable thus far.

I’m interested in this as well, but not so concerned about battery life because my Mac is an M1 iMac. It’s more stability and bugs that I’m worried about. Last year I adopted Ventura quite early, and that went fine, but was wondering about whether to hold off this year, at least until a couple of months pass. But people are saying Sonoma has been pretty good in beta?
