I was reading through blogs today (on my MacBook Pro), I wanted to double click on the body of the article so I could zoom in to it with out the menus.

Has anyone else tried to do things on the Mac/PC that the iPhone can do?

Yes! This happens to me all the time now. I constantly want to zoom in on stuff by clicking on it. I always have to resist the urge to touch the screen. Plus, i scroll the wrong direction with the two finger scroll feature on my macbook. My girlfriend has all the same issues too. I hope they give the desktop version of safari some of theses features. That would make my life a whole lot easier right about now.

I tilted my CRT monitor to see a PDF file in portrait mode. Didn't work...and I think I broke my wrist

:(

Its kind of funny, never did that, but I noticed considerable changes in the way I do things since getting the Iphone.

First of all I actually want to read email on my cell phone, I have a wm6 device too, and its a pain but on the iphone its so intuitive. Yes its slow over EDGE , but seems I use wifi about 90% of the time.

The other thing, I would never think of updating my blog through a cell phone, but its easy with the Iphone. I use wordpress, there are wordpress formated templates, there's a podcast plugin that works great with the iphone.

I am thinking of using my leased web domain to house both mine and open source webapps for I can get to them from anywhere.

I am 80% done on completely a upnp/dlna client for my Iphone , which will allow me to stream to the iphone from the same media servers that my media center pc and the avlinkplayers we have stream from. As well as the yet to be purchased xbox. (streaming from tversity).

I can already stream video and music from my webserver using simple php scripts but I like the idea of all the media devices being able to hit the same server.

The above has "motivated" me to crash learn Ajax over the past week, which is going to significantly affect how I design applications for the office too.

The Iphone camera, though not all that good, is better than most cell phone cameras, and great for pictures for the web. Its really easy if you have an account with typepad to send pictures to a photoblog just by prefixing the blog name with the phone number. (or some predefined number)
Its also not rocket science to add that feature to say a wordpress or mobiletype blog either.

Just some things that have changed in my life,

Oh yea, outside the newly aquired wII the newest addiction is google maps and youtube.

Haha!

You need a Panasonic Toughbook CF-18 laptop. When you rotate the touchscreen display to turn it into a touch-only notebook, it automatically becomes portrait instead of landscape. You can also do it manually.

Darn thing weighs a ton more than an iPhone though

it'll be interesting to see if the iPhone interface drives other products in the near future.

I don't see how it couldn't...it's a marvel to use.

Imagine a laptop with a completely virtual keyboard for example.

I thought there are already some? those tablet PCs.

i tried to zoom in on my macbook today by moving my fingers in opposite directions on the mousepad thing.

I use the zoom on my MBP all the time.

Just hit:
Opt Cmd +(plus sign)

It obviously isn't as flashy as double tapping or pinching...but still helpful sometimes.

I'm also screwing up with the two finger scrolling now too. I find myself wanting to flick it and let the screen roll, but it just stops :(

MacBook Pro zooming

If you have a MacBook Pro, just hold the  key use the two-finger scroll method, or scroll wheel on a mouse. Scroll up to zoom in and down to zoom out. Works great, I use it all the time.

Naw I mean a "real" laptop, not some techno-wonder just to see if it can be done.

I mean when you go to buy your laptop, they're all virtual keyboards.

Virtual keyboards are not the norm now, and to me it will be interesting to see if the iPhone exerts a market pressure on it to become the standard way notebook keyboards are done.

Virtual keyboard on a laptop do not make sense, its still better to type on a real keyboard. if you really want a virtual one, you can buy a tablet pc and find a 3rd party virtual keyboard.

What I'd like to see is something like a graphics tablet that mimics a multitouch display. I expect WE WILL see that.

The iphone is causing a lot of changes, web 2.0, ajax apps never really caught on in the mainstream, no every blog software has a iphone template, the next big thing will be dedicated hosting sites for iphone apps, since they require a web connection.

The keyboard is an enormous waste of space. Surely there are better ways to use that space than to dedicate it to a keyboard 24/7.

I don't think I would want a tablet though, I like to have a full sized keyboard when I need it separate from the main screen.

Maybe something like a full sized Nintendo DS with full notebook capabilities.

Being able to call up a custom virtual keyboard for each computer game, for example, would be fantastic.

I'm down for a MacBook Pro with two multitouch screens.

Only if I can set the keyboard theme to look like these:

But yeah, this would be pretty sweet:

It would make the Optimus keyboard a joke.

This could remove the touch pad/mouse necessity and the keyboard too! Pull up a virtal keyboard.

Take that, Microsoft Surface.

I hate the arrow keys on the mini toughbooks.
