Hi guys im planning to install an nvme for my mac pro 5.1. I would like to install an extra fan to the Mac Pro. But if id install a fan normal it would be running at 100percent fan speed. Would there be an option to install a fan controller ?
Like this ones;

Akasa AK-FC-08KV2 AK-FC-08BKV2

Lamptron CP120 V2

install it to the pcie slot and sata power to molex adapter to power it and connect the fans. Then i could control it in the back of the MAc...?
Does anyone uses this ?
What could i do?

Welcome!
I was in a similar situation (additional fan for GPU and one for the Northbridge).
I wanted an integrated and invisible solution so I went for two MP1584EN powered by the 12 V of the ROM bay.
These are mini DC-DC buck converters with a high efficiency and are manually set to drive the individual fans silently.
Will post pictures and my setup later.
More info of the MP1584EN: https://www.matts-electronics.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/MP1584EN.pdf
Of course this is not an out-of-the-box solution like your suggested controllers.
- For the back of the Mac, the Lamptron CP120 v2 looks good, just get a long enough Molex to SATA power cable.
- You could also get a fan of the Noctua lineup which include different adapters to reduce the rpm/voltage to a constant level suited for your needs

Thanks so the MP1584EN looks a bit diffucult to me? What is this?
So you say Lamptron CP120 v2 looks good... I wull buy one like this and the fan for the nvme.

It is basically the "heart" of the retail fan controller and way cheaper. It's a voltage step-down module: Put 12 V in and manually regulate the output (~ 1-11 V) with the integrated potentiometer.
Attached an image of two of them to separately control two fans.

So you say Lamptron CP120 v2 looks good... I wull buy one like this and the fan for the nvme.
Yes, but if you take the power from the optical bay, you will additionally need a power cable (molex female to sata male) .

Where can you find this voltage step down module. The pci Fan ,,Controller,, would be a lot easier, and you could control it individually. It takes power from sata to molex. There is another similar famcongrolmer which takes power from sata Power to sata.

I got mine from eBay / China but if you‘re not comfortable soldering I‘d recommend a retail product.
One thing you should check is how you would route the power cable from the optical bay to the pci fan controller. Without dismantling the Molex plug or temporarily removing components of the Mac, this could become problematic.
According to your use case you don‘t actually need the easy access to the controller from outside in the pci slot so you could position the controller in the optical bay and instead route the fan cable.
The fan plug is much smaller and easier to fiddle through available gaps/holes.
If you‘d go this way, you also wouldn‘t need the additional power cable if you chose a fan controller with a SATA power connector as you could plug it in directly.

edit: Maybe change the topic title to sth that better reflects the specific request (a.e. „controlling additional fan for nvme“) as there should be many proven solutions by other users.

This is about all useless.

He wants a nvme blade in a dumb PCIe adapter.

He already has been told that using a kryo.m.2 what has a decent massive heat sink is sufficient.

So no need for an extra fan, the pcie fan is there to do this job.
