Does anyone know how to add Gmail to Apple Mail using POP and not IMAP successfully? I've seen others have the same issue. It automatically sets it up as IMAP and when I try to do a manual setup using "Other" it says "unable to verify account name or password."

Thanks

its works in Yosemite just fine. And even when I disable IMAP in Gmail, it still sets up as IMAP and continues to work.

Previously I've set up a nonsense account under other. It doesnt connect obviously but once saved it acts as a template you can edit and manually add in pop settings for gmail

I've just successfully set up 2 POP accounts, one for Yahoo and one for gmail.

The trick is to select other, then put your actual email address for the account but a nonsense password. The account is unable to grab the true settings so you are kicked back to a window that allows you to edit the account type and outgoing/incoming servers

this works, thanks.

question, how are you moving your emails over. I used to be able to copy the Mail folder from Library and then Mail would just update the database and all my emails would appear. But now it says its updates the database but my inbox is empty and archives are missing. Are you having the same issue or doing it a different way?

Yeah, previous drag and drop proved challenging...

So I just booted into my Yosemite backup, opened mail and exported as .mbox each of the individual folders in the 'On my Mac' section. Doing this gives you Imported/Each exported folder name/mbox so you then have to move the contents of each mbox one level up to 'folder name'.

One thing to be mindful of is that somehow ghost folders are created so you might run into a problem where there are duplicate names so you may not be able to move some folders without first changing their name.
