I need to add members' email addresses to a Group in my Contacts. But it doesn't work by dragging them from the .xlsx list or by using Copy and Paste. Any suggestions, please?

Contacts will import csv files. Probably will need some cleanup afterward (eg duplicates), but will get them in.

Otherwise, can automate it via Applescript or Shortcuts: read in csv, for each line see if contact and if not create a new one.

Thanks NoBomac. I just tried importing as a csv file but they were imported as separate Contact cards. I want to import them all as a list of email addresses so that I can send one email to all the members. I don't know how to automate via Applescript or Shortcuts but I'm prepared to learn if this will do what I want with these email addresses.

It might depend on what the Excel sheet looks like but if it's just a column of email addresses you can use Excel to save it as a space-delimited text file (.prn), open that file with TextEdit, select all and then paste into the "To:" field in a new Mail message.

You can do that. The imported contacts get placed into a Group and then you enter that Group's name into the To field. Allows for one contact, multiple groups/lists.

Also works on iOS (See attached)

How about making one Contact with the group name (ie- "All Club Members") then copy/paste all the email addresses in the Notes: section at the bottom. To send to all members simply open the Group card, select all Notes, and paste it into your email To: line. (But yeah the "right way" to do it, is to enter each person as a separate contact and then drag them all into a Group on the sidebar.)

The way I understand it is the OP doesn't want these addresses in his contacts in any manner and he just wants to send one email to the group.

My suggestion above works but I should have said paste into the TO, CC or BCC field as desired.

This may or may not help....
I found that when working with Excel and Contacts, fields and records didn't work as I expected. But when I imported into Numbers, and then to Contacts, they did.

Thanks BrianBaughn. Yes, that works and I now have a new blank message wih all the email addresses in the BCc field in my drafts folder to complete and send next time I need to notify the members. But I would still like to have the list in my Contacts inside the Group folder for the organisation so I will continue to try any suggestions from this forum.

That sounds promising. I will try it. Thanks kohlson.

I already do this with sending emails to about 12 people in an Inner Circle but those people are already in my Contacts so it was easy to create a Group for them in Contacts. The current problem exists because I don't want the people on this other long list to be in my Contacts. I don't mind them being there but it would be tedious to manually set up a card for each and every one of them.
