How to block sender in GMail

How do I block a sender in GMail? My OS is Yosemite 10.10.5

I don't think you can actually "block" someone (as in having the email bounce back to them) but you could set a filter at the Gmail webmail page to delete the email when it comes in. Have the filter mark it as "read", also, if you don't want to see an unread email in your Trash folder.
