VERY simple task with Paint in Windows but what can an OSX 10.6.8 user employ that is included with iLife or free from the web? Still images only. Don't even think about Photoshop. Thanks.

Download Skitch. It's a free app, and has the pixelated option you want. Just draw over whatever you want to hide and voila!

Thanks for replies. One more ...

Q. Is there any free image-grab program along the lines of the paid-for Snagit? Just for cropping and dropping part of the screen into emails. Can I drop said images into emails with Yahoo's Premium service?

Use an application called Grab that comes with your Mac.

Are there any free email services which permit the dropping of images directly into text? If not, can anyone recommend a good, paid-for email service which does? Thanks again.

What service do you use for email now?
Do you know (for certain), that the service that you use now does not support attaching photos to emails?

I'm using Yahoo's basic email which is free. I'm referring to the ability to paste or drop images directly into the body of the text, rather than as attachments. I understood only premium email services allowed this but there might be a free one that does?

I only do attachments, (don't care for inline photos) so I have no suggestions for you, other than:
Doesn't gmail allow that?

Yes gmail does allow that. Just drag your photo into whatever part of the email you want, eg between text.
To create the photo, assuming you want part of one, you can do that with cmd shft 4 as said or with preview, select a section of a photo by dragging, then copy, then edit > new from clipboard. save that, then drag it in.

Been achieving this thru Gmail for years.
