Call me cheap! Money is tight and Im getting signal thru my neighbor which is OK with them (I ask permission about this). There are times that my signal are fading. What do I need to boost up my signal? I had an Imac Intel core duo which i bought last year. I appreciate your help.:)

It might be a long shot, but if they're using an Airport base station, you could buy an Airport Express ($85 from Apple, refurb), and set it up as a repeater, if there's a convenient location to put it in your house/apartment that has decent signal strength. The other option is to move your computer to a location with better signal.

There are other possibilities, but they'd require some input from your neighbor.

Setting up an airport set as a network extender closest to your neighbor's house/signal woud be your best bet.

While you’re at it, why not run an extension cord from an external socket to your house and get some free electricity. You could also have someone tap into his gas line too... might get cold this winter. If that doesn't work, you could chop down one or two of his trees for firewood :p

Do you have wireless N,or G? Wireless N will travel MUCH further out than G. If your neighbor only has G that is the speed the N will run on,but it will still will have a much broader reception area.

Given you get on well with your neighbour you may find that they won't mind moving their router nearer to you so that you get a better signal and they keep themselves well connected too. A common fault with positioning routers is people not putting them high enough, so you may find that you and them have a much stronger signal just by moving the router higher up, on top of a tall cupboard say.
