my NEXTEL contract is only $175. that's only 2 months service for me until august '07. i can live with that.

i'm hoping cingular will offer something like a buy-out or something, the way car dealers buy your old car -- no matter what you owe on it (they hide the costs in your contract)

Depends on how honest you feel.

When I moved abroad to work last year, I had to break a contract with Sprint. They didn't charge me, since I said I'd be perfectly willing to transfer my contract to their France-operated branch. :D

Since that obviously doesn't exist, they let me off the hook.

A couple of options:

1) Pay the early termination fee that was in the contract you signed.
2) "move" to a remote location that they don't serve.
3) Wait for a material change in their terms/billing. (IE: The SMS increase from Octoberish)

Personally I'm stick'n with'em 'cause I have no love for AT&T/Cingular just to get an iPhone. That and I'm only paying $30/mo for 500 min, unlimited internet, unlimited SMS etc etc minus a corporate discount of a sizable amount. :)
