how to change PATH for x11 permanently..

hi
i installed x11 and then used fink to get xemacs.,...
now the prob is that i cant set the PATH variable in x11 window permanently . So everytime i have to specify PATH n then open xemacs. The PATH varible for terminal is set. I tried specifying teh PATH in .profile file in my home directory...but it changed the path for terminal window and not the xterm.
my shell is bash. I cant find any .bashrc file in my home directory...
anyone knowz how to solve this ??
