When I do "get info" on the LaCieHD, the sharing and permissions says "you can only read" there are no other options, there is no lock icon, nor is there any box checked anywhere to lock or unlock. This seems to be a popular problem I have found from internet search, however I can't find a solution that makes sense or works.

Please help!! :confused::) Thanks

Is your disk formatted in NTFS format? Mac's cannot natively write to NTFS file systems. You would need to install 3rd-party software to write to NTFS, or reformat the drive in a mac-friendly format.

I'm going to assume this is a new drive, and is empty. You can reformat the drive using Disk Utility. Disk Utility is located in /Applications/Utilities. This page provides a simple enough guide to format the drive: http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/partitioning_tiger.html

Use Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) as the format if you only plan to use this with a mac computer. FAT32 is an option if you plan to use this drive with both OS X and Windows, but it has a 4 GB file size limit.
